Spelling Bee Champ!
We are immensely proud of Sage. A few weeks ago, he won his class spelling bee with the word “enormous.” He’s an excellent speller, so we weren’t surprised. We were surprised, however, when Sage told us he did not want to be in the school spelling bee to represent his class. He said he was, “scared to be in front of the whole school and mess up.” We had a long talk and Jared reminded Sage that the only way to overcome your fears is to face them. So, Sage agreed to be in the school spelling bee.
Last week was the school bee and Sage did great! He made it to the 6th round and was the last third grader left. He incorrectly spelled the word “residential.” But, he handled it with grace and poise. He was so brave and we are so very proud!

Fall Fun at the Farm
The boys and I spent Saturday at the farm enjoying some fall fun! We played on the playground, fed the many animals, explored the barn and silo, and got lost in the corn maze!

Dragon Powers and Probability
Two funny stories about Sage:
A couple nights ago, a couple hours after the boys had gone to bed, Sage screamed as if he was having a nightmare. Jared went to check on him and asked, "What's wrong." Sage, in all seriousness and probably still asleep, whispered, "I can't figure out how to use my dragon powers." 😂 Jared told him to go back to sleep then walked out of the room. I asked Jared to repeat it to me because I wasn't sure I had heard correctly since I was in the other room. Jared couldn't keep a straight face and we both laughed about Sage's dragon powers until we cried.
Another evening, during dinner, we were talking about these dinosaur eggs Sage and Kai got for their birthdays. Our friends' daughter had one this summer and the dinosaur inside the egg was the same. All three dinosaurs turned out to be the same. I asked, "Are there even any other possible dinosaurs?"
Sage said, "Yeah, there are 4 different dinosaurs."
I asked, not expecting a reply, "Well, what are the chances of that - that all 3 of you would get the same one?"
Without hesitation, Sage answered back, "Twenty-five percent."
Jared and I lost it and laughed hysterically. And this is why we call Sage the Little Professor. Hahaha!

Happy birthday, Sage!
We celebrated Sage's golden birthday last weekend! He turned 9 on the 9th so we added some extra touches to make it extra special: gold decorations everywhere, golden presents, a golden treasure hunt, and a super special present!
We spent the day reading the birthday book, climbing at Rockin Jump, eating Sage's favorites including Qdoba, and partying at LouFest.
The boys' reactions to the Sea World surprise were priceless! It was truly a special, golden birthday!
Sage at 9:
Favorites: Qdoba, apple slices, family, Pokémon video games, Minions movie, the lake house, Rockin Jump
Personality: Sage is exactly how he's always been - smart, creative, funny, kind, gentle, and loving. He's becoming very witty and makes us so proud that he's just such a good person.

A Total Solar Eclipse Birthday Party
Today we celebrated the boys' birthdays with a most unique and unforgettable birthday party. We skipped school and work to experience a total solar eclipse for 2 minutes and 37 seconds at 1:17pm today. The last time St. Louis experienced a total solar eclipse was in the year 1442. We celebrated with a viewing party at Grandma and Grandpa Cline's house in Festus because they had the longest duration of totality in the area. It was truly a phenomenal experience to see the moon eclipse the sun. Here is NASA's photo of the eclipse in St. Louis.
What an amazing experience!
