Look who found his feet...

Sage recently discovered his feet. Ever since, we have a hard time keeping his socks dry because he likes to chew on them. Here's a picture of him enjoying his new found appendages.

Sage is going to be a big brother!

Shocked? Yes, us too - especially since I've been on birth control since November. I guess Jared and I are just "lucky" to be in that .01% that isn't included in the "99.9% effective" statement.

We had an ultrasound Thursday and baby #2 is due on October 5th, 2009. That means Sage will be just over a year old. What on Earth are we going to do with two babies under two? I know people survive. After all, I'm barely a year older than my little brother Adam. But, Jared and I are just getting used to being parents in the first place! It's a good thing we have awhile to get used to the idea.

I do have to say that although we are still getting used to the idea of another little one, Thursday's visit was a relief. Mostly, it was a relief to see only ONE little sac and dot and on the screen. I was really worried about following in Jared's mom's footsteps (having one baby and then a set of twins).

It was also a relief to know that everything is fine and that there shouldn't be any harmful effects from the birth control I was taking.

I'm just over six weeks along. Which of course means I'm experience full-out morning sickness. Just like with Sage, my morning sickness lasts all day and all night. Yuck! Now, however, I'm usually so distracted and busy that I can't fixate on not feeling well. I guess that's a good thing.

Transferring his knowledge!

As a teacher, I'm always talking about the importance of kids transferring their knowledge from one application to the next. Well, as I was telling a story about Sage in the teacher's lounge today, I realized Sage is already transferring his knowledge! I'm so proud. =)

For Christmas, Sage recieved a musical table. It has a keyboard, banjo, trombone, drums, and much more that he can use his hands (or feet) to make music. Well, since he's not standing yet, we took the legs off of the table. Usually, I put Sage in my lap and hold the toy in front of him so he can use his feet to hit the keyboard and other musical things. He loves it!

Well, in his crib, Sage has a rainforest musical thingy that plays soft music and gently glows to help soothe babies back to sleep. It's a lifesaver because Sage will lay there enchanted by this thing for long periods of time. The problem has been that it turns off after 7 or 8 minutes. To get it back on, you just have to press a button on the front of the thing. Usually, I have to do this for him.

Well, last night, Jared came into the bedroom after checking on Sage and asked, "Did you turn on that rainforest thing?" I said, "No." Jared asked, "Did you turn him sideways in the crib?" Of course not. Apparently Sage had turned himself sideways so that his feet could reach the rainforest thingy. He had used his feet to turn it on! So smart!

Sleeping in his own bed!!!

We've successfully transitioned Sage to his own bed in his own room! Sage had been sleeping with us in either our bed, the bassinet, or the pack and play in our room since he was born. However, since he now knows how to roll over both ways and does so in his sleep, we knew it was time to move him to his own crib.

Saturday night was the first night. It went surprisingly well! He hardly fussed at all and didn't wake up crying except for at his normal midnight eating time. I felt like we had turned the corner and there was no going back.

So, last night (Sunday), we tried again. This time, Sage vigorously fought sleep and I was tempted to give up. But, I didn't. I had to soothe him at 11:30pm, at 1:30 am after he ate, and one more time at 3:30 in the morning. But... I did hear him wake up at about 5, cry a little, and amazingly fall back asleep on his own! Hooray!

Sage is getting to be such a big boy - an independent, active little guy.

Yesterday, was Sage's first experience at church. I knew it was his nap time, so I didn't want to leave him in the nursery with strangers. Because, after all, being tired mixed with strangers equals complete scream fest. So, I took him with me into the service hoping he wouldn't cry. Well, I totally forgot about Sage's propensity for vocalizing his excitement.

Sage really showed off during the service, making faces at the people behind us, screeching with excitement, and, of course, loudly blowing raspberries! Everyone but me thought it was "so cute." I was slightly embarrassed because of his timing with the whole thing - quiet during the music and singing while noisy and excited during the sermon. What a little stinker! I did end up leaving the service to a quiet back room to avoid the total meltdown I could sense was coming as he fought the sleep monster! But, overall, we survived and no one seemed to be too annoyed.
