Feeling anxious

I've crossed the 30 week mark with baby #2. Everyone I talk to that had back-to-back babies said they delivered #2 early - most by more than a month early. So, even though I'm hoping for a late September baby, I'm trying to prepare for an early September baby.

That makes me nervous! I don't know why, but with Sage I couldn't wait to until he was here - I was so excited! This time, I'm feeling more anxious with each passing day. I'm worrying about how we will manage two little ones. Sage has become this extremely mobile, very active toddler who is even starting to get a little bit of an attitude and very much has his daddy's stubborn streak.

Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely tired of being pregnant! I feel like an elephant having been pregnant for almost 2 years straight! Probably look like one too. =( I do enjoy pregnancy as far as creating a miracle and love to feel baby #2 moving. But, after nearly 2 years, I'm ready to be done!

More Lake Fun...

While Jared enjoyed a boy's weekend out of town to celebrate Justin's bachelor party, Sage and I headed to the lake. It was a lot of fun because more of the family was there. Somehow, the lake is just not the same when it's not crowded with family. =)

Sage enjoyed his first boat ride and had a chance to play on the beach. Maybe next summer, when I'm not pregnant, he can have his first wave runner ride!

Good times!

Favorite Toys

Which do you think are Sage's favorite things to play with at 10 months old?

Blocks, balls, xylophone, drums, rattles?

How about none of the above? Jared and I wonder how his attention lasts all of two minutes (if that) with his "toys." But, when he's given say: a dog collar, daddy's belt, mommy's straw, a plastic formula dispenser, or even a piece of junk mail, Sage's attention on that object can last up to 30 minutes. Fascinating! I can't wait until he has words to tell me what he's thinking when he plays with Rosco's collar and leash for thirty minutes straight.

I love this kid!

You Know You're Pregnant When...

- you spend twenty minutes watching your belly for another kick or punch from the baby =)

- you need assistance trimming and painting your toenails (that are seemingly growing like wildfire)

- you use said toes to pick things up off the floor to avoid bending over

- you can smell your husband's sweat when he walks in the door and you're in the other room

- you need a nap thirty minutes after you got out of bed

- you have to sleep sitting up to avoid middle-of-the-night acid reflux (gross and ouch!)

- you laugh and cry in the same moment and for no good reason

- getting out of the bed, off the couch, or in the car take way more energy than they should

More to come...

Testing out the new camera

Jared gave me an awesome new camera for my birthday. It has a "smile" function on it where it instantly takes a picture when it detects a smile. Sage and I tried it out the other day. I put the pictures together in a video for your enjoyment...

Busy Weekend

Last weekend, we had a family reunion for my mom's side of the family. That was nice because we haven't gotten together with that side of the family in a long time. In fact, this was the first time most of them had even seen Sage and he is 10 months old. It's kind of sad that we don't get together as much now that my grandma is gone.

But, we had a good time. Sage had his first pony ride and his first swing at a pinata. Mostly, he just loved playing with his aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. Check out the picture of him enjoying a taste of chocolate cake!

Sunday was Ella's 4th birthday party. It's hard to believe she's that old already. One more year until she starts school! Time flies! It was supposed to be a swimming party, but it stormed all afternoon. We made the best of it though.

Dad taking a swing and a miss at the pinata - he got it the next swing!

"Dada"

Sage has mastered "dada" in the last few days. Jared is happy! It's cute, so I don't mind. He's also added the "pa" sound - so PaPa should be happy too.

...Still waiting to hear "mama."

28 weeks and counting

I had my 28 week check up at the doctor's office for baby #2 today. Everything was great and normal - average heart rate was 158.

At the end of the appointment, Dr. Collins said, "See you in 2 weeks." I was like, "what?! - it's already that late in the pregnancy that I have to start coming every two weeks?" Oh my goodness. Sage was born just shy of 38 weeks, so if this one is born then or earlier, we're talking less than 10 weeks until baby #2.

I'm starting to freak out a little! I don't know how we can possibly manage 2 little ones. I know we will, but the thought is a tad scary. Especially since I feel unprepared.

I shouldn't feel unprepared. At this time with Sage, we had just moved into the house and had so much to do to prepare - painting, wallpapering, putting furniture together, washing clothes, etc. This time, we just need to do a little bit of rearranging in the babies' room, buy a few things (crib, double stroller, second high chair, clothes), wash and sort clothes, and of course buy diapers in newborn size. I guess we really don't have that much to do. However, it does take much more time to get things done these days since we have a 10 month old to chase around and love.

So, on that note...now that Sage is in bed and I've already missed the season opener of Big Brother, I'm going to go get some stuff done.

Baby Bookworm

Since my career is all about teaching kids to read, it's shouldn't be a surprise that I want Sage to enjoy books too.

Luckily for me, that doesn't seem to be a problem. He loves to look at books and knows how to turn the pages. The other day, I was in the kitchen cleaning bottles (something I feel like I do all the time) and Sage was playing in his room. Usually, there is a constant chatter or noise when Sage plays, but for about five minutes, he had been quiet.

I peeked in on him and found him sitting in his tunnel reading books. He must've sat there for a good ten to fifteen minutes looking at all his books. It melted my heart. =) My colleagues at work say I should've video taped it so that when some kindergarten and first grade teachers say, "5 and 6 year olds can't read independently," I can say, "yes, they can!"

This morning, I took Sage to the library for his first official "storytime." He loved it. He loved being with the other kids, but he also listened very attentively to the librarian read. Sure, we had a few squirmy moments during the 30 minute session, but that's to be expected from my mover and shaker. Overall, though, he did an amazing job - I was impressed.

I'll be sad when I have to go back to work and will miss getting to do all these fun things with my little man. Maybe I'll win the lottery between now and August 10th...

Sage's first lake trip

We recently celebrated my 30th birthday with a weekend at the lake.

Sage loved being in the lake. I think he enjoyed the waves. A couple times, he almost fell asleep in his raft, it was so peaceful. He also like to just float on his back in the water.

Here are some pictures from our relaxing weekend...

Fireworks Fun!

Sage mesmerized by the fireworks

I took Sage downtown to see the fireworks on the riverfront tonight. It has always been one of my favorite things in life - to watch the fireworks down where you hear the music, the crowd, and can feel the explosions in your chest.

So, of course I had to take Sage for his first experience - not knowing whether he would enjoy it or not. I only took him down for the fireworks. We got there about 8:30 and listened to the end of the Counting Crows show. Sage was super excited - even on the walk down there, he was squealing with delight as he bounced up in down in his stroller. He loved the concert too.

The first firework exploded and I waited for Sage's reaction. He was mystified! The first five minutes of the show, he didn't move, he just watched intently. Then, he started getting excited and low and behold, he clapped for the first time!!! I've been trying to get Sage to clap his hands for over a month now and tonight he did it. It was the cutest thing ever - to see how excited he was!

Can't wait until next year...
