Sleep, what's that???

Man, I'm tired! These boys are giving us a hard time. Sunday night, however, was a huge success - Kai slept from 7:30 pm until 5 am in his own crib and without waking up once! Then, I realized he was running a fever - so he didn't feel well. The next day, he slept a lot (in Jared's arms). Ugh!!!

Last night, Sage and Kai were both up nearly all night - taking turns crying. Why, I don't know. All I know is Jared and I are tired with a capital T.

Right now, it's 8:00 pm. Kai's been asleep (in his own bed) since 7 and Sage since 7:30. I'm trying to stay awake through the rest of American Idol, but I don't think I'm going to make it.

Sleep Training Night #3

Final Score: Mommy 3, Kai 1, Sage 2

Guess you can tell from Kai's score that he won the overall battle last night. I did really well until 5:30 in the morning. At that point, we had battled it out several times already with me losing lots of sleep. Kai thought 5:30 was time to play, so I finally gave in and snuggled with him until he and I fell back asleep until Sage woke up at 8.

Tonight, though, I'm back on my game. Kai was tired at 7. He fell asleep in my arms finishing his bedtime bottle. But, of course, as soon as I laid him down, he eyes popped open and the crying began. Twenty minutes later (or so, I was't really keeping track tonight), it was quiet.

Jared doesn't get in until midnight tonight, hope I can stand my ground. It's always harder when I know I have to work in the morning.

In other news, the boys and I went to the park yesterday. This was the first time we've been to the playground since the fall when Sage had just started walking. Then, he could only do the little slide and with lots of help. Yesterday, Sage was all over the place - I had a hard time keeping up with him since I was carrying Kai. Sage was climbing up steps, crawling through tunnels, and sliding down slides. He even went down the big slide all by himself. It was too cute to see how proud he was to be on the big boy slide! Everytime he was done, he clapped.

Sleep Training Night #2

First, let me finish Thursday night. Right after I finished my last post, I comforted Kai and managed to get him to fall asleep on his own. He slept until 12:30 when he was hungry, ate, and fell asleep in my arms. As soon as I laid him in his crib, he woke up - of course. Fortunately, I was able to get him right back to sleep by holding his hand. Kai woke up again at 3 am. I was SO tempted to just bring him in the bed with me because I needed sleep to go to work in a few hours! But, I held strong and after ten minutes, he fell asleep on his own again. I ended up having to wake him up at 7:00 when it was time to go. I call night #1 a success.
Score: Mommy 1, Kai 0

So, here it is 5:30 in the morning on a Saturday and I'm wide awake. But, it's not Kai that is keeping me awake. It's Sage. He's been up since 3:30 am - little booger. Sage woke up crying - which he very rarely does. I think I jinxed myself when I posted the previous night that he almost always sleeps through the night without a peep! I should know better than to say something like that. Anyway, I brought Sage into the living room and we laid on the couch while he watched cartoons and I dozed off. Thank goodness for the Sprout channel - age appropriate cartoons 24/7.

After about an hour, Sage gets up and toddles into the kitchen. I heard him rustling around in the pantry and then in our utensil drawer. Just as I'm about to get up and see what he's doing, he toddles back to the couch carrying a can of peaches and the can opener. Ha Ha!!! I guess he was hungry. So, that' what he's doing now, eating some peaches and a cereal bar.

Kai is asleep - still. He went to sleep at 8:30, woke up around midnight, cried off and on for about an hour, and has been sleeping ever since. He cried for a few minutes about thirty minutes ago, but managed to get himself back to sleep. No feedings all night.
Night #2 score: Mommy 1, Kai 0, Sage 2

One more night before Daddy's home. Let's hope both boys sleep through the night, in their own cribs, and that mommy gets some sleep too!!!

Sleep Baby Sleep...*please*

Jared is out of town tonight through Sunday. I'm determined to get Kai sleeping in his own bed while Jared is gone (Jared prefers to hold Kai all night rather than lose sleep listening to him cry). It's 8:42 pm. Kai has been crying for 8 minutes. Breaks my heart to hear him cry. I should've bought some ear plugs.

I will calm him down in 10 minute intervals all night if I have to, but I cannot give in. Now that Kai is on the move, it's too dangerous to have him sleeping anywhere but his own bed.

I hear silence...

Ten minutes and he's asleep. Score one for mommy.

Darn, I was just about to hit "publish post" and he's crying again.

I remember it was about this time last year when I thought Sage would never sleep through the night. He does. Sage sleeps from 8 pm to 8 am without a peep nearly every night. I look forward to the nights when Kai does the same.

Let the games begin...

not for the faint of heart...

Sage pretending to be Rosco getting a drink of water. Thankfully, I had just washed the bowls that morning!

Vacation in Paradise

Pictures from our tropical vacation...

I wish! Actually, I took these on Friday at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. I consider it a small slice of paradise without the expensive plane ticket. Even though most of the gardens were just beginning to bloom, Sage, Kai, and I had a fantastic time walking around and exlporing for two hours. Well, Sage and I had a great time - Kai slept the whole time (that's why he's not in any of the pictures). The Botanical Gardens is definitely one of my favorite places in the city - so glad we have a membership (thanks Mom and Dad!). Right now, they have the orchid show - fascinating to see the orchids blooming upside down - so big, beautiful, and colorful.

The Children's Garden isn't open until April, so I was concerned about Sage losing interest. But, he's so happy just being able to run around, he was quite entertained. He actually did a pretty good job of staying on the paths too. And, he only picked one flower. Oops!

Spring Break!

Another perk of being in education is Spring Break! Last Friday was the first of ten days off in a row for me - a chance to pretend I'm a stay-at-home mom. And, let me tell you, after three days in a row of having the boys by myself all day, I have an increased appreciation for Jared and our babysitter Julie. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my boys and LOVE spending time with them, but it is a loooong day!

Saturday and Sunday, the boys and I just hung out at home because they were still getting over their colds and it was raining out all weekend. We made obstacle courses, built towers, read lots of books, and just about anything else that would keep Sage and Kai entertained.

Monday, the boys were finally well enough to go somewhere, so we went to Monkey Joe's - the inflatable bounce house place. For five dollars, Sage played for over two hours. He had a great time! Since this was the second time we've gone, I thought Sage might enjoy bouncing a bit more. But, standing by the speakers dancing is still his favorite thing to do there. I should not be surprised! Kai had fun watching and sitting on the edge of the bouncer, bouncing up and down. The two of them were absolutely perfect for me! Thank goodness, because I always worry when I have to take both of them somewhere myself.

Yesterday, Jared was home - we tag-teamed the little guys so that the two of us could get some things done. But, when Jared went to class last night, I took Sage and Kai to the new rec plex. The YMCA opened a new rec plex by our house around Thanksgiving. With a huge workout area, gym, lots of classrooms, indoor pool with water slides, etc. - this place is enormous! Since I'm in a "biggest loser" contest at work and training for "The Race for the Cure" in June, I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet and pay for a membership. If you ask me $69 a month is a lot of money to work out!

Anyway, last night, I took the boys with me. Kai went to the childwatch area and Sage and I went swimming. He had a great time - loved the zero depth feature so he could just walk right into the pool. We had a great time and stayed in the pool until Sage started to turn blue and he didn't even want to get out then. In April, Sage is going to start his first swimming lessons! Thursday night, Kai gets to swim.

Today, Jared is working and the boys are at Julie's house. I have a long to-do list including lots of spring cleaning. Guess I better get started...

on the move

The boys are on the move...

Kai is now rolling in both directions and scooting himself all over the place. Sage still holds the title of "dancing machine" - dancing every chance he gets. The funny thing is, now, he doesn't wait for music, he sings his own songs and dances. Too cute!

Tonight, the boys were "wrestling" with each other. They were rolling on the floor together blowing raspberries on each others cheeks laughing hysterically. It was hilarious! Sage and Kai are best buddies already. Hopefully, it stays that way forever!
